Bolton Mansion's Hearth Cooking
Bolton Mansion's Hearth Cooking Class with Susan McLellan Plaisted.
"It is not too much to say that this magnificent Bucks County estate of 550 beautiful acres with its splendid buildings and handsome Colonial Mansion of great historical importance is one of the finest gifts the University {of Pennsylvania} has ever received. It is a fitting memorial to one of Pennsylvania's most loyal sons, Effingham B. Morris, '75, a fine Christian gentleman and citizen of distinguished ability."
Horace Mather Lippincott, '97 C. 1st, 7th mo., 1946
From the donation of Bolton Mansion to the University of Pennsylvania for its veterinary college in July, 1946.
Bolton Mansion, originally 350 acres, was purchased by William Penn (circa 1687) and built by Phineas Pemberton. The name, "Bolton" came from Pemberton's home in Boulton, Lancashire, England. The Pemberton family eventually merged with the Robert Morris family, who continued the farm.
